About
Hi, I’m Pam Cook, creator of SanDiegoHealthBuzz.com.
San Diego Health Buzz was created to share my passions and truths about life, health, & business; to engage the community, and explore what’s possible.
This site is a sort of “anti”-marketing (aka “un-marketing,” via Scott Stratten, whose motto is, “Stop marketing, start engaging”).
Self-employment, here I come.
There’s something about turning 40 that made me realize, it’s now or never.
Living is for now, not for “someday.”
Maybe part of it was from watching my dad die of cancer. Or maybe it was the new awareness I’ve gained from eating a raw vegan diet.
Life is too short to do things the way everyone else is doing it. It’s too short to be stuck in a cubicle!
A little background story…
I graduated with a degree in psychology from Wells College in upstate NY. A much-too-long-to-tell-here story led me to California. After a short stint working in my field, I fell into the typical “get married and have kids” mold. The years have since evaporated.
My husband’s job brought us from rural, Northern CA to San Diego county, quite the improved quality of life!
But the cost of living took me from stay-at-home mom, to self-employed daycare owner.
That business sucked out whatever life I had left in me.
I scaled back to part-time nanny at a clients home – a successful stay-at-home dad who started his own health benefits firm.
To this day I don’t know why – but he encouraged me to get my insurance license, and offered to help get me started. I’ll always be grateful for that.
I now represent his firm, Unlimited Benefits, Inc., as an independent agent.
I reside in Oceanside, CA with my husband and three kids – always living on the edge (and driving my husband crazy) with new foods, fitness crazes, and lifestyle changes.
I’ll be contributing to this site regularly with blog posts about being a raw foodie in a cooked food household; fitness experiments (such as barefoot running), disease prevention, health related articles, insurance info, and local resources.
You can also find me on Twitter. (@pam_cook)
Let the living begin!
Pam
