Shopping Local and Organic – Cream of the Crop

It’s days like this I feel so fortunate to live where I do. I have access to so many organic food choices, often at reasonable prices. Many people don’t have that luxury!
This organic foods market, Cream of the Crop, is located in my San Diego County town of Oceanside.
No matter where you live, try your best to eat as much organic produce as possible. Even Costco (in the U.S.) has some organic greens. They have the best prices I’ve seen on organic baby spinach, and mixed baby greens.
Some areas have local organic produce co-ops. Even if you had to drive a bit every week to pick up your share, it would be worth it.
The Trial
This has been the best day yet on the trial. I feel the closest to my normal pre-trial self. Cravings were minimal today (until my mother-in-law came over to bake chocolate chip and sugar cookies with my kids. Ouch).
Fitness
I ran 1 1/2 miles today and felt better than my last run in which I described it as having bricks tied to my legs. But I didn’t feel great.
pH
I tested my pH today and it has gone up a bit! I was happy about that. In my last post I mentioned my pH declining as low as 5.0. Today it has reached 6.0. Not optimal, but improving.
The Food

Breakfast
Avocado and sugar plum tomatoes.Quick, easy, and delicious. I took the tomatoes along on my grocery shopping excursion.
Snack

It was approaching noon, and I was starving. I spotted this pack of coconut at Cream of the Crop market, and remembered that “coconut pulp” is ok on Phase I* of this diet. Woo hoo! I munched on this all the way home while driving. It is not organic, but I was so hungry I didn’t care.
(*Even though coconut pulp doesn’t show up on Phase I of this online chart, in the book it does).
Lunch
Onion flax crackers with tahini, and salad.

I know this dressing is crazy looking, but it was actually pretty good! I threw together romaine, dandelion greens, radish greens, and radishes. Dandelion is a very alkalizing green, and good for detoxing. The dressing is my standby (tahini, water, lemon juice, garlic, salt, pepper) with 1/2 avocado mixed in for variety. Not bad!
Dinner
I almost skipped dinner because I was too full. But by 6:30pm decided to try this light salad from “Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine.”

Cabbage Hemp Salad
(This is a rough version of the recipe; I substituted olive oil for hemp oil, and used chopped ginger instead of juice).
2 cups red and green cabbage shredded
Chopped cilantro
2 Tbsp hemp seeds
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 Tbsp lemon juice
tsp chopped ginger
tsp sea salt
Evening
I’m thrilled to have my Stevia Drops again! I purchased them at Cream of the Crop. Back to my yummy lemon water with stevia this evening. (Realized the next day I forgot to take my spirulina tabs).
Thanks for stopping by!
