Day One

January 1st 2010

Getting Started & “Dont Chew the Spirulina!”

Starting a new way of eating is not easy when you have house guests! I’m making things super basic the first few days. No dehydrating or experimenting with recipes yet (which I love), and minimal photos.

Following my Phase Chart, I tried to keep it simple (just staying in survival mode until visitors are gone!)

Morning

Hot lemon water with stevia
Spirulina Tablets

If you click on the Spirulina link, you’ll notice it says in the product description, “These Spirulina Tablets are the BEST!!! I Just pop them in my mouth and chew them like Nuts!” Ok, so I tried that, and it is just about the most disgusting thing I’ve ever put in my mouth! UGH! The smell is also gross, maybe to be described as fish food. Having said all that, after reading the benefits of this food, and high protein content, I can’t resist including this superfood in my diet! I’m swallowing them like vitamins. They don’t taste bad when I pop them in my mouth, and no burping up fishy flavor at all. So it’s a keeper for now.

Breakfast
2 Tbsp raw almond butter
About 4 celery stalks

This particular almond butter is very different. It is definitely raw, and has a very “raw” flavor. There’s no resemblance to roasted almond butter. I added salt to boost the flavor a bit.

Lunch
One bag of Greens from Trader Joe’s
(Organic Herb Mix)
1 avocado & organic sugar plum tomatoes
Cucumber dressing from pg 255 of “Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine”.

This meal was just “ok.” The dressing was not appealing to me. I’m also craving hot food! I felt very cold after eating this. I was going to avoid all tea, but decided to have an organic mint & lemongrass herbal tea. That hit the spot!

Dinner
Zucchini noodles made with Spiralizer
Red Pepper curry dressing from pg 263 of “Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine”.

Hemp seeds sprinkled on top
(warmed in my mini crock pot)

I made the curry dressing originally for salad, but thought it would go great on noodles after tasting it. Yummy satisfying dinner! It tasted even better warmed up, and the hemp seeds on top went well with the curry flavor. I could’ve gotten more elaborate with the meal, adding other veggies, but kept it easy.

Evening
More spirulina tablets (I have 7 at a time)
Lemon water

Tonight I feel full and satisfied! I usually rely heavily on fruit in my diet, so it’s going to be interesting to see if I begin to crave it. I plan to attempt a fruitless green smoothie of sorts with almond milk soon. I also want to make some sort of granola, and flax crackers.

I’ve started experimenting with ph test strips; more info coming. Very interesting stuff!

Looking forward to day two!
More pics to come…
